PCFD Firefighters have been participating in wildland training. This is the time of year to get out the gear and the tactics in order to be prepared for the upcoming season. During this training they practiced the progressive hose lay. A hose lay in which double shutoff wye (Y) valves are inserted in the main line at intervals and lateral lines are run from the wyes to the fire edge, thus permitting continuous application of water during extension of the lay. These packs are simpler to deploy and pack out.
Please remember with drought conditions this year, fuels for wildfire can dry out and become more flammable. Drought can also increase the probability of ignition and the rate in which fire spreads.
